Alcoa ->wants $3 a piece for the lug nuts and covers which totals somehwere near $190. ->Seems a little outrageous to me. -> ->Todd ->muccilli -> I have a '95 F250 4x4 supercab Powerstroke, and have had what I think are the same problems pulling off the hubcaps on the aluminum wheels. My truck has small 'doughnut' hubcaps. I used a large screwdriver the first time, and mangled the edges of the plastic hubcap. What seems to work very well is the 'L' shaped lug wrench that is under the hood next to the jack, at least on my '95. It doesn't seem as though it relates to tongue weight, since the F150 is not rated for 1000 pounds tongue load, nor the F350 2000 pounds. It doesn't relate to cargo weight, since the F150 can carry over 2000 pounds and the F350 almost 4000. There was a post which was kind of neat which somehow related the F-designation as a towing weight, which made some sense, but of course my original question was about the tonnage designation, not Ford's designations. I am starting to believe this had meaning once, but may be obsolete. We could probably benefit from an old-timer who was around when this nomenclature started... The rumor is that the light-duty, light-duty trucks (F150, F250) will continue along the current space capsule lines, while the heavy-duty, light-duty trucks (F250HD, F350) will be differentiated with more work-like styling, whatever that means. Of course you are aware that the '97 F250 looks just like the '97 F150 (with minor bumper/ grille alteration) and the F250HD and the F350 look the same... I agree with the assessment that the idle-up kit won't help at startup time, but it may help over the long-run by elevating engine temperatures faster, thereby limiting the amount of time the pushrods and valves have to run through goo instead of nice, hot oil. This should reduce wear. I wonder if you are using the correct grade of oil (sorry to ask, but very important) and obviously, a synthetic is indicated at the temps you related (-35 to -45 degrees). My headlights turn off and on after they have been on for 15 to 20 minutes. This does not require motion. In the driveway at idle they do the same. The truck can be running for a long time before and that does not matter. The headlights are the only thing to dim or go out. The parking lights and dash lights stay on. I am confussed and cannot find the answer to this. If anyone has a cure or even a guess please let me know. So I am going to turn out the ID of a new race and press it over the old race. Since this is changing the ID of the bearing, I have ordered new bearings that I will press into the hub (after the hub is turned out 1/8"). This modern exchange should work. The only snag is that I will need to have a machine shop turn out the axle-race every time it is replaced. (Or at least when my kids might have to change them in 20 years). The 351W is a more efficient engine than the 351M so you will notice a drop. BTW: Where do you live? The blocks are different, the Mustang is roller cam and the truck is hydraulic. This means the cams are different as well. The heads could be the same on some of the Mustang GTs but the cobras used a varient of the GT-40 iron head. Did this answer your question? I have a very thick ford truck repair manual that predates my truck (1967) and I thought it covered yours. Unfortunately it only covers 1953-1963. If I hold the You can adjust the duration of the choke to correct this. To adjust this, locate the choke cap (the black cap with the wires). Loosen the screws that hold this cap down. O yeah. Warm up the engine to normal temperature and let it idle. Turn the cap slowly towards the "RICH" position (it should be marked on the cap) until you see the lever from the choke start to move. Then back the mark on the cap to the last closest mark on the housing and tighten the screws. If I gear up to 3rd and rev the engine high, the problem ceases. Had this same problem on my '68 F100 360. Replaced bent pushrods, very worn distributor and coil, very leaky brake booster (you can hear it hiss), and slackened timing chain. You probably won't have to worry too much about the timing chain. Each of these things helped a great deal but I still had the problem, especially when cold. I replaced the Bosch Platinum plugs with plain Autolites and the problem almost disappeared. To top off the job, I reinstalled the original air cleaner setup with the heat riser that I had removed in favor of a small, washable Edelbrock Proflow. I have no more carb backfire.....
