Get the F350... solid axle, much easier to lift. This is assuming the 2001
F250 still has the independent front.....

Thanks for the reply...the new F250 is a solid axle. I know the lift will be
simple. I am concerned with the way the computer will react to the larger
tires...speed sensors, abs etc.

Wrong assumption. :-).
Since 1999, the 4x4 SD's have solid axle's in front.
Dana 50's for the F250 and F350, and Dana 60's for the trucks
with DRW.
2x4's have modified IFS. (I don't know the specifics, as I have 4x4)
This site is excellent for Lift specifics. For V10 engine, try the 97-up list.
For SD truck specific, also see http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.ford -diesel. com
They specialize on the Power stroke engine, but have the best collection
of info on the SD truck.

Subject: Re: new F250...a couple questions
Bill-
I've talked to a few people with the V10. Some claim it doesn't have
enough power and some say its just what they needed. I've heard that headers
on the V10's improve power, feel and fuel mileage by a substantial amount but
haven't seen anybody actually using them yet.....LOL. I would say for a good
torque and heavy work load, its a great engine. As for how the engine runs
with the bigger tires, that's what the computer is there for in the first
place. I doubt bigger tires were the goal of engineers when they built the
computer, but alterations such as in altitude, weight load, towing
conditions, etc. were. But no matter what, the computer will make necessary
adjustments for you. With a chip added, the computer will maximize the
efficiency of how it runs the electrical systems but is definitely not a
must, just an option. I would say a 35" tire is know problem for this engine >
and gear ratio. The same computer is used for all gear ratio options and
since a bigger tire is a lot like changing gear ratios, it shouldn't effect
how the engine runs at all. The computer also only knows the engine. It has
nothing to do with the transmission, rear end, front end or the radio as to
popular belief. Hope this helps.

Subject: Re: new F250...a couple questions
the sound can only be heard when i am not accelerating and the gass pedal
is not pushed down. It's only when i'm coasting
Also, if i put the truck in neutral (it's a stickshift) the sound goes
away which leads me to believe it's something to do with the tranny.
Also, the truck shakes a real lot at about 70 - 75 mph as if it is out of
alignment, i'm not sure if that has anything to do with this specific
problem but i figured i'd mention it.
if anyone at all could help me in anyway in figuring out what is going on
i would greatly appreciate it. I am at work now (an hour away from
home) and i am scared to drive the thing home in fear that i might damage
some vital piece of my truck
thanks a ton
