Lately I've been passively looking around for a D60 Ft axil for my 75 F250.
Just scoaping out the prices... I ain't got the money right now)-:
I am stunned to see the prices that these things go for! The typical
nationally advertised price is US$3100.00, up, in a rebuilt state. Actually
that is not a bad price for a complete ready to run Front axil, until you
compare it to one for a Chebropuke, which from the same vendor is only
US$1700.00! This differential in price is not reflective of a quality
difference in the differentials, they were both made by DANA! So, is it that
there is just so many more Chebropukes out there? I don't believe so... Of
course more of the Fords are still running!, but still...
Any-waze, I got to thinking (a dangerous thing) I could buy a Got
Mechanic?, Dana 60 and simply cut it apart and swap the tubes, axils, etc.
from side to side and weld it back together! I' know how and have access to
the correct machinery. Shoot, I could have it done and still not have
$2100.00 in the thing! Sure I wouldn't have the high pinion set up, but then
I don't now with the D44 that is in the truck, and I don't think that it's
worth a grand in this application... Plus I'd get the Generally Moronic disk....
