Do the little bottles of fuel injector cleaner additive do any good? Or
does regular gasoline have enough of this stuff already in it? I'm
trying to get rid of a miss in third gear at low rpm's when the

There are three parameters to check to see if the leaves will fit.
First is width. Are the add-a-leafs the same width as the front
springs. Second is length. You don't want them longer than the bottom
leaf in the pack and too short will stress the bottom leaf. You have
quite a bit of latitude on length. Lastly is position of the "center"
bolt. The hole isn't exactly in the center and you want your new leaf
to be positioned in the same front to back ratio as the original pack.
If all of these seem to be in order, or close, the leaves will probably
work.

I put a front add-a-leaf kit under my 95 Powerstroke. It was pretty
easy. Your biggest problem will probably be getting the rusted "center
bolt" out of the pack. I'm working on a short "how to" article on the
front add-a-leaf installation but other priorities keep me from getting
it done. If you send me the dimensions of your front pack and the
leaves you have I can compare them with the ones I installed.

BTW: I made my own add-a-leaf set for my S-10 from an old pack. Wasn't

hard and much cheaper than buying a set.

Gary:

I have an 86 F-150 2wd, w/ a 300 six and OD manual. I believe the shop
manual calls it a TOD. It has an external hydraulic slave cylinder. A
friend of mine had a 90 F-150 w/ the Mazda tranny and it had a internal
slave cylinder. The tranny in my truck has been OK. It has 140K on it and
sometimes (Esp. in winter) it has a hard time going into first gear. I
don't think it is a very heavy duty unit , but has served me well. My truck
has a long two piece drive shaft w/ a center bearing to a 8.8 rearend, you
may have to fool w/ the driveshaft. I think they went to the Mazda tranny
when they went to fuel injection. My friends 90 F-150 went 180k miles w/o
trouble but he did have to have the slave replaced which requires removing
the tranny. Both of our trucks were mainly highway drivers.
