The posting had a bunch of different codes and there corresponding ratio numbers. Does anyone remember this posting or maybe still have it. If so could someone send it to me. The 31x10.40x15 is going to be a little rougher on the pavement than the 265/75R-15. I didn't know you could get a 265 on a 15 inch rim though (I thought you needed a 16" rim to get that big a tire). Anyway, I've been very pleased with B.F. Goodrich Radial All Terrain tires in a size 285/75R-16 on a 4x4 that was primarily used on the road but occaisionally on construction sites and on sand. I think they were too skinny for serious sand use but this size is geared more towards street driving with occaisional offroad duties anyway. I have had a few different kinds of Goodyear tires. All junk. My mother-in-law just replace the factory tires on her 1994 Bronco with some 31x10.50x15 Goodyears and they are great on road, but absolutely HORRIBLE off-road, even in 4WD. My 2WD 87 F250 with 235/85R16 tires, no locker or posi or anything, is better offroad than her Bronco and I have el-cheapo Cornell tires > from Pep Boys. Speaking of Pep Boys, I had another truck with the Futura truck tires (Futura is the pep boys house brand). I don't know if they still make these things anymore, but the Futura tires were seriously inexpensive, rode well on the road, were fairly useable offroad, better in the snow than most truck tires, and wore very well. It would be worth your while to see if PB still has these tires. If all they have is the Cornell, forget it. I have the Cornell (which is their other house brand) and they are just "cheap" in every sense of the word. Maybe it is because I didn't specify exactly what I wanted to do. What I have is the 8.8" rear end with 3.08 gear ratio. I was thinking about changing to a 3.55 gear ratio. How is this done? I just ordered a brand new 1 bbl carb for mine , The carb from the dealer was $ 500 (I'm getting from a mechanic for $350 still big $$) I also was thinking of using a exhaust manifold from a later model 4.9 L , they look like real a header and have a hole for the 02 sensor. I could not figure how to hook up the computer control with the 4bbl set up. I really enjoy hearing about big six performance . I'm sure someone out there has put a turbo on of these. >Dave >86 F-150 , 4.9L ,140K miles, 2wd Dave, My header didn't come with the O2 port for the sensor but I believe you can get ones that do. Along with EGR plates that fit between the carb and intake for 4 bbls. Mine just kind of dangles there under the hood, along with some feedback carb wiring. I should have done more research before I bought the parts I did and I probably could have hooked more of the emissions stuff back up. Good thing there is an e-mail list like this now for people to communicate ideas and knowledge. I was told that the O2 sensor and other computer related stuff on my truck only makes adjustments once the engine is at normal operating temp and runs off of factory presets within the computer when it's not. I think this is true because my truck runs fine without this stuff hooked up. I don't now if the newer exhaust manifolds fit the older trucks but it's a much better design than the old style. I completely understand what your talking about on prices. Before I did this to my truck, the exhaust manifold was cracked. I could smell the exhaust inside the cab! The 1 bbl carb was totally worn out and needed to be rebuilt or a new one installed. The truck idled rough and the gas mileage was BAD. I talked to the ford dealer and it was $500 for a new carb, $350 for a new exhaust manifold & $350 for a new Intake manifold. $1200 in parts just to get it back to a stock, good running condition. So I priced out the alternative, $220 for a 500cfm electric choke 4 bbl carb, $190 for a 4 bbl intake & $150 for a header. $560 plus the new exhaust from the header back ( 2 cats, 2 mufflers & 2 pipes installed-$360) for a total of $920. Plus the truck has lots more power than it ever did before, and it runs a lot better with good gas mileage. We don't have emissions checks in my area and my truck probably isn't street legal but I figure with a new street legal carb, new cats and a well tuned engine is has to polluting less than it was before. Sorry so long winded. And don't forget the look in that little pukes eyes when he see that him and his daddy's 5.0 just got smoked by an F-150 with an I6 under the hood. And those guys with their 350's, see ya later. I used our HP Annihilator ignition and one of our LaserShot Strip coils. I didn't think to do any track time comparisons, but the seat of the pants feeling is much better. This, combined with a K&N FIPK, I was very pleased. With these changes, plus dropping the truck 4/6, my 60-foot times at the track are .001 slower than a 94 corvette. Of course, after the 60, he leaves me in the dust! I can't remember the exact time, but I do remember that reference. >Chad Cassetty Got anything that will work on an '86?
