Baked potato suit on and ready.. :) I saw it in a catalog listing for one of the muscle cars as a direct stock replacement but can't remember which model or year it was. Seems like it was 68 or 69 but might have been 71 not sure. While I would never put a chevy 14 bolt in my ford or a chevy engine > because ford has adequate or superior parts for each of those I have to say that there are no ford carbs that equal the Rochester in function or tunability so would not hesitate to use one on any car I own. OTOH, if ford had seen fit to make their spread bore on the same bolt pattern as the Thero Quad, Rochester and Holley 4165/75 and had used tunable parts such as replaceable jets, metering rods etc. I wouldn't even consider using anything else but ford fell on it's face in that regard and every time I use a Rochester on my ford I'm slapping thier collective hand for SCREWING UP I once told a union rep that if ford didn't make a vehicle I wanted for a certain task I would readily buy a TOYOTA! He was not amused but my argument is that I should not have to use something that doesn't EXACTLY meet my needs if it's out there made by someone else, it's my money after all. He still wasn't convinced but he felt perfeclty fine about me buying a CHEVY rather than a Ford because at least it was American made..........what an utterly rediculous argument! No ford worker benifitted in ANY WAY by the purchase of a chevy and don't bother to reply to this because my ears are plugged on this issue, sorry. Chevy is no less a competitor and stealer of my lively hood than Toyota, and again don't bother, my mind is closed on this issue but you are free to have your own opinion. If ford had made dirt bikes in 74 I would have bought a ford dirt bike instead of a Suzuki............. The above sentiment is one reason I stick to old trucks. At least for the time being I can put any engine, configured in any manner I wish using any tires I wish with interior controls in any configuration I wish and I cannot buy this off the dealer lot at any price, exactly as I want it. IOW, the truck I want does not exist untill I make it happen myself so I stay with the old ones :-) And if it gets a scratch, so what? :-) My daughter found a depression in the plastic moulding on her front bumper when washing it the other day and I thought I might have to call 911.........:-) 78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6, 235's 78 Bronco 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's 78 Lincoln Town Car, 460, C-6, 19.5' long! - -- Gary -- = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 61-79-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 61-79-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 12:23:15 +0000 From: "Gary, 78 BBB" Subject: Re: FTE 61-79 - Brake light update > Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 02:38:09 -0400 > From: Garry Bowling > Subject: FTE 61-79 - Brake light update > Well it seems that my brake light is staying on because of the > portioning valve. I found a quick, firm jab or two at the brake pedal usually fixed the problem once the shoes were properly adjusted. Some of these are more sensitive than others too so you may have to fiddle with the adjustment of the shoes to get the light to stay off. 78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6, 235's 78 Bronco 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's 78 Lincoln Town Car, 460, C-6, 19.5' long! - -- Gary -- = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 61-79-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 61-79-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 11:31:11 +0000 From: "Gary, 78 BBB" Subject: Re: FTE 61-79 - engine pulling > Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 08:44:18 -0600 > From: Jamey Moss > Subject: FTE 61-79 - engine pulling > My question is whether I should pull the engine separate from the > transmission (like all the books and manuals I've read) or leave the > two attached and pull them as a unit (as a co-worker suggested). Is > there any reason that I shouldn't pull them out as a unit other than You may have to take a few more parts out of the way to get it out in one piece and on the ground the tail shaft of the tranny my hit the ground before you can clear the front of the radiator frame. If you have the grill and top of the radiator frame off already then it's a piece of cake but some trucks have solid frames which cannot be taken apart. You should be able to get the top two bolts out from the top and the others are pretty easy from the bottom. Leave the torque converter on the tranny temporarily til the engine is out and when you store the tranny put door shims under it to support the weight or store it separately and gently stuff clean rags in the input shaft seal (carefully). Also get some mechanic's wire to tie the front of the tranny up while you pull the engine. When you pull them together all the tranny fluid will drain out the tail shaft if you don't have a spare drive shaft slip yoke and also out the speedo gear hole if not plugged. 78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6, 235's 78 Bronco 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's 78 Lincoln Town Car, 460, C-6, 19.5' long! - -- Gary -- = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 61-79-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 61-79-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 13:31:23 -0400 From: pickup65 Subject: FTE 61-79 - Stu 4100 info, email, brakes > Stu I have an article about the 4100 in an issue of Mustang Monthly. It was written by the folks at Pony Carburetor and is very good with lots of info. If you would like I can scan and sent it to you. As to your email problem if you can get access to a computer with a modem you can get email without an isp. Juno is a free email service that does not need internet connection. The way it is designed you use their software to connect to their computer and download your email, then read your email offline. You would have to register an email address with them that ends with juno.com. They have access number that covers 400 cities so no long distance calls are necessary. Even though my isp is att I use juno for this list email because of ease of use. It is a very well written program but the only downside is all the advertisements (necessary to pay for the service.) Also I would like to pass along this little bit of info. I went to Auto Zone to get wheel cylinder rebuild kits for the rear brakes on my 1977 F150. I also needed to have the drums measured to see if they could be turned. The wheel cylinder kits were $3.99 but a new cylinder complete with everything was only $8.99! What a deal! I decided to get the new units so when the counter guy brought them to me I noticed something very interesting. The left wheel cylinder is made in China and the right made in Italy. There were differences in the manufacture of both units but it should not matter since the bore diameter is the same. What's my point? Nothing really I just thought it was interesting. Also the drums I had to buy were from Canada. Jon E. In America we have the right to choose, that's what makes it America. We also have the right to have and express whatever opinion we want...see above. I've been a blue oval guy for about 14 years but prior to that when I bought my first brand new car in 1984 the big 3 didn't make a car in my price range that was worth the powder to blow it to h*ll. I bought Japanese because I could get a quality product for a good price. I have friends who still swear by foreign iron/steel/aluminum. I found that after about 87-88 the big 3 got the message and Ford put out the best American iron on the market. They still do. I drive rental cars more than I do my own and so I get to drive allot of different vehicles. The fit & finish and driveability on Henry's stuff is light years ahead of GM and Chrysler. Bottom line, consumers will vote with their pocket book everytime. Why else do we have that moron in the whitehouse. Also many big Fords and especially Lincolns/Mercurys used the GM (Frigidaire) axial A/C compressor and GM (Saginaw) power steering pumps. For you trivia guys, the first automatic transmissions used in FoMoCo cars was the GM Hydra-Matic used in early 50s Lincolns. Ford has used GM parts here and there for many decades. However, I don't recall GM ever using any regular production Ford parts - anybody? This probably is due to the corporate structures (just about everything Ford is Ford, whereas GM has all those semi-autonomous divisions like Fridgidaire, Delco, Morraine, et al). _ _| ~~.
